Wordmore Wednesday

Wordmore Wednesday

It’s been a busy September for the Buried clan!

Detective Munch started school, Mom and Buried and I went on a babymoon (I hate that word but I give up), and just yesterday we moved into a new, bigger apartment. Don’t worry, we’re still in Brooklyn.

Due to everything going on with the move, I’m unfortunately not going to have a Wordless Wednesday post for you today. I’m the worst. But I do have some other goodies to share, just in time for decorative gourd season!

Guest Post: Suburban Snapshots and the Benefits of One

The internet is weird.

Almost 15 years ago (pre-blog, pre-kid, pre-mature) at my first job after college, I briefly worked with a woman named Brenna Jennings. (I almost called it my first “real” job but I think Brenna will agree that “real” barely applies.) We weren’t exactly friends but she was a lot taller than me so that was my fault.

Cut to a decade and a half later when I recognized her name on the byline of a funny piece on The Huffington Post and immediately went to her hilarious, like-minded blog, Suburban Snapshots. I reached out, explained who I was several times until she pretended to remember me, and we rekindled what I can only refer to as an adversarial, she-had-no-time-for-me-and-I-was-scared-of-her relationship. And then I asked Brenna, a self-described “working mom who blogs it out because vodka has too many calories,” to write a guest post on Dad and Buried.

After almost a year, she finally obliged.

Link Envy: “True Detective” Conversations

So I’ve become relatively obsessed with HBO’s “True Detective”. I got on the bandwagon a little bit late, but after spending the past week catching up on the season, I won’t be hopping off of it anytime soon.

The term “link envy” implies that I wish I had created the site to which I’m linking, and while I guess that’s kind of true for this one, I’m mostly just glad someone else did. Because it’s hilarious.

Even if there are only a few entries, every one is gold. Especially this one.

Link Envy: Reasons My Kid Is Crying

Link Envy: Reasons My Kid Is Crying

The internet is so vast, there’s scarcely an idea that hasn’t been explored within its pages. Occasionally, you stumble across one of those pages and are immediately struck with envy at not having been the person to explore the idea first.

Earlier today, a friend sent me a link to one of those pages.

It’s a Tumblr called “Reasons My Son Is Crying” and it’s as simple – and universal – a concept as it gets. A dad* posts pictures of his toddler, mid-tears, and captions the photo with an explanation. Needless to say, there are a lot of pictures. And some hysterical explanations.
