I love my kids, I just hate parenting
In this age of iPods and Spotify, maybe you don’t remember Maxell. This should jog your memory: MomandBuried and I were bored on a rainy day, and the kid was unusually cooperative. Besides, he was already sitting in his easy chair; it had to happen. Unfortunately he’d already finished his martini.
My son loves music. A few weeks ago we bought him a little wooden guitar to play around with, and for the 18 hours he had it, he wouldn’t let it go; he actually wanted to sleep next to it in his crib. We didn’t let him, lest he break it…
Of course, the next morning, after waking up and immediately grabbing his new axe, he Pete Townshended the hell out of it. I love music myself, particularly rock n’roll, so I’m excited to see him appreciate it so young. Doesn’t hurt that he’s already emulating one of the all-time guitar gods, though it’s a shame he smashed into pieces so quickly. At least he didn’t copy Hendrix at Monterey!
This supercool video – in which a dude guns through 100 mostly recognizable guitar riffs in row, in one take – will be a fun way to show my son all the different sounds a guitar can make. Even if the guy in the video doesn’t quite do Tom Morello justice.
I’m glad the Cookie Monster released this parody, because playing it for my son gives me the perfect excuse for constantly having the tune stuck in my head. Only problem is, now I absolutely NEED to hear Ernie sing “Somebody That I Used To Know” to Bert.
There was a time when I thought they weren’t real. I saw them on a classic episode of The Simpsons and thought they were a clever joke. But, sadly, they do exist. And it’s hard to believe anyone would consider using one.
I’m talking about the “Baby Harness.” In the classic Simpsons episode that featured the return of Danny DeVito as Homer’s long-lost brother Herb, a baby-speech translator captures the feelings of a child who has been subjected to a harness: “This leash demeans us both.” (Watch the episode here!)
The sad fact is that even parents who refuse to succumb to the convenience of the baby harness can’t help but regularly demean their children. Sometimes, all it takes is the wrong shirt.
